The first (capsule), took place last week in NYC. (capsule) is a new fashion event designed to bring the world’s most directional independent GEN NOW menswear designers, super premium street wear and lifestyle brands together under one roof for the very first time. Presenting a highly-edited capsule of collections from around the world, (capsule) reflects the look of the new consumer and presents a fresh approach to the fashion tradeshow.
It proved to be everything a trade show typically is not: intimate, casual, and wholesome in feel. From the food to the music, it felt a little like showing clothes at a friend’s loft party—and that’s a good thing! The space, Angel Orensanz Center, a historical 19th century synagogue which is now a cultural and educational center, was a welcome change from more traditional conference centers. Adding to the laidback vibe, simple homemade sandwiches provided sustenance for the attendees, while the music was, just as (capsule) promised, a familiar mix of tunes ranging from The Shins to Serge Gainsbourg. Instead of impersonal booths, all the designers were given garment racks. We hope to see more trade shows take this community-minded approach in the future.
As for the wares, it was hard to pick just a few to tell you about but these are four that really caught the eye of TRENDCENTRAL:
Super Sunglasses: Recently featured in the July issue of I-D magazine, this Italian sunglasses company promises to be a hit. Similar in design to the iconic Wayfarer style trendsetters have been sporting the past year, Super Sunglasses are available in bright colors and are exceptional in quality, as well. Handmade in Italy with Zeiss lenses, they can be found in such trend savvy stores as Fred Segal in LA, Steven Alan in New York, and Colette in Paris.
Toy Me: The Italian connection continued with Toy Me, a Milan-based male jewelry line that showed silver pieces ranging from racecar and sunglasses pendants to dice cufflinks.
Clae: Regarded as a pioneer in the “athleisure” footwear movement, Clae has returned to market after a brief absence. The shoes have both a timeless and sporty appeal and are available in diverse materials such as full grain leather and cruelty-free hemp. A small collection is available in influential shops, including Reed Space in NYC, Arrive in Miami, and Scott Hill in LA.
Ksubi: Formerly known as Tsubi, this Australian street clothing line is best known for their superskinny denim favored by young Hollywood. Pushing the color envelope, Ksubi has introduced drainpipe denim in intense, saturated colors like mustard yellow. Also soon to be a trend in denim if Ksubi has anything to do with it is extremely faded or bleached denim.
